That's an alcohol lamp--so pretty much exactly what it sounds like, it's a heat source.

Seems like a waste of good alcohol.

[Diarmuid turns the lamp this way and that to get a better look at it.]

I guess no genie or wishes for us.

You can't drink straight ethanol, so it's not really a waste so much as it is repurposed for a fuel source.

And what do we even need a wish for at this point?

[Wrong kind of alcohol. Be more specific next time, Waver. Your partner is an Irishman.

Diarmuid sets the lamp off to the side somehow managing to kick up a dust cloud in the process. As he fans it away, he mutters.]

How about a way to avoid death via dust inhalation?

Defeated by a cloud of dust, really? I'm almost disappointed.

[Diarmuid raises an eyebrow at him.]

If you don't want to be disappointed, maybe you should come and save me from my humiliating demise. We are partners, after all...

You poor thing. [Waver reached out to take Diarmuid's wrist and pull him a little closer.] Let me whisk you two feet away where it can't hurt you.

Yay! My prince saved me!

[Diarmuid lets himself be pulled closer, his head dropping against Waver's shoulder for a moment.]

My wish came true!

I don't think a prince and a lord are quite the same, but I'll let the terminology slide for now.

[Especially when he had a much more important obligation to run his hand through Diarmuid's hair.]

I like the term 'partner' better anyway.

[Diarmuid's voice is soft and he lets out a sigh of contentment when Waver starts running his fingers through his hair.]

Is there any kind of magic you haven't studied or at least looked into?

Hm...I don't know. There's a lot I've at least read about in passing if nothing else. Why do you ask?

[Diarmuid shrugs slightly, grinning into Waver's shoulder.]

Maybe I am looking for present ideas...

...Huh? Wait, what's brought this on?

Nothing...

[So innocent sounding. Except not.]

Oh, don't start that. I know that tone, what are you up to?

Am I not allowed to get you a gift just because I feel like it sometimes?

[He laughs softly.]

Besides, you saved me. I should reward you...

Hmph. I didn't do any of that looking for a reward, you know.

Well, I was referring to just now, but...

[Diarmuid shrugs.]

It's a good thing you aren't expecting a reward, to be honest. I'm not quite sure how I will ever repay you for all of that other stuff, though, I have to admit sometimes it's fun thinking about what I could do.

Hm...you could try a kiss and I might call it even.

Only one? I think you are selling yourself short.

[Diarmuid sits up and then leans in close to Waver's face.]

How about one kiss now and an IOU for as many as you want later?

I should think those to be more than acceptable terms.

Excellent. There is a reason I so enjoy being in love with such an intelligent man.

[And, then, before Waver can argue, Diarmuid leans forward to give him that well deserved kiss.]

[Smart as he was, it looked like Waver still hadn't managed to quite learn to get rid of his awkwardness; he hesitated a second or two before putting his arms around Diarmuid's shoulders and returning it.]

[Fortunately for Waver, Diarmuid likes that awkwardness. He would be sad if it ever went away completely. Once Waver's arms settle around him, Diarmuid lets his own wrap around Waver's waist. When he breaks the kiss a few moments later, he drops a quicker kiss onto Waver's nose before sitting back.]

Hopefully, that was acceptable. I would hate for you to be disappointed in your reward.
