[Diarmuid might have sensed a peculiar fluctuation in their spirit link today--something lasting no longer than a second or two, easy to dismiss as no great disaster.]

[However, when the Clock Tower's favorite lecturer came home not an hour later, he was to say the least very frustrated and very small.]

Flat Eskardos is a fucking dead man.

[Translation: 'My 'favorite' student had a bit of a magical mishap.']

[Diarmuid's voice cuts off when he steps out of the kitchen and sees...a lot less Waver than there should be.]

That is it! I am not leaving you alone there anymore no matter how 'safe' you say it is! What happened this time? You're...tiny...

It's not my fault Eskardos is a colossal fuckup, and I am not tiny!

[Diarmuid walks over to Waver, finishing drying his hands on a towel before holding the hand with the towel in it up near his head.]

Your head is usually here.

[He then drops that hand and the towel down to the current level of Waver's head. As he does, the towel dangles into Waver's face.]

It is now here. You are tiny. I could probably pick you up with one hand now.

[He swatted the towel away, and a scowl that might have looked threatening any other day looked like an angry kitten now.]

You already knew I was short as a kid! And should we really be focusing on this right now?!

You're right, of course. Sorry about that.

[Diarmuid smiles widely at Waver as he sets the towel down on the back of a nearby chair.]

There are other things that we really should focus on, aren't there? Here let me take care of one for you...

[It takes only a moment for Diarmuid to reach out and grab Waver by the collar, lifting him into the air with one hand. Not so easily as Rider had done it back during Diarmuid's version of the 4th War, but...]

Question answered. I can now lift you with one hand. You are tiny.

The next question is...what exactly were you and Eskardos working on that ended up with you like this?

[He flailed uselessly for a moment or two before giving up, hanging there with a miserable look on his face.]

I don't know what he was doing, but it exploded. I was too busy trying to kill him after that to listen to an explanation.

[Instead of putting him down, Diarmuid lifts Waver a bit more so he can look the magus in the face.]

How did you expect to fix yourself if you killed him without finding out what he was up to first might I ask?

Oh? Is that so? Then, Mr. Oh-So-Smart-Magus...you are going to have to figure out on your own how to get down, because I don't feel like putting you down quite yet. And once you do that, maybe I will consider accepting that you might be smart enough to figure this out alone. Otherwise...

One: How does making him figure out a way to fix this mess prove you are smarter than he is?

Two: No. You tried yelling already. Try something else, my dear half-pint master.

Come on, Diarmuid--this is ridiculous enough, you're not helping.

[Diarmuid gives him one last swing--a little stronger than the others--and flips him onto the nearby couch.]

[Waver scrambled to a sitting position, crossing his arms with a scowl.]

Tossing me around is, as far as I am concerned, the opposite of making this easier for me.

[Diarmuid crosses his arms over his own chest and mimics Waver's scowl.]

You asked me to put you down. This I did. You never specified how I needed to put you down. As they say, the devil is in the details, my friend.

[Diarmuid's expression grows more serious and he walks over to sit on the arm of the couch.]

Is it wrong that I am trying to lighten the mood for you? If there was anything else you could do to fix this now, I expect you would still be at the Tower working. Since you are home, I can only assume you are stuck and need something to get your mind off things...

...You're right. There's really nothing I can do but wait either for this to wear off or Eskardos to sprout a brain.

But if you're trying to make me feel better, at least sit next to me instead of over there.
