Whether you win or lose hasn't been decided yet. Remember, no matter how similar they seem, your world and his are different.

[Diarmuid reaches out and places a gentle hand over Lancer's fidgeting ones.]

And win or lose, you did accomplish something. You changed his life and you gave him the strength to start a very noble quest, a quest that has to be done, a quest that will protect and save so many people. All because of you.

...I don't understand what you mean. What is it he's set out to do?

The Grail..it's not what you think it is. At least, not on his world and not on several others I have heard about.

He's going to destroy it. Before it destroys anything else or hurts anyone else.

But that's--is that even possible? How could anyone...?

He seems to believe it can be done, and I don't doubt him. The how, though, he is still trying to work out.

[Diarmuid gives Lancer a determined look.]

When he and I go home to his world, we have a lot of work to do.

[Lancer pressed a hand to his heart, eyes downcast.]

He truly is...admirable, isn't he? I had noticed my Master's belief in himself was worryingly limited, but to know he could have begun to realize his own potential is wonderful.

He is a fighter. I think he really just needed someone to believe in him for once and help him find a direction. You did that for him.

[A worried look crosses Diarmuid's face at the look on Lancer's face, especially with that gesture.]

What--oh, I'm not--it isn't as though I--

[Stammering as he realized what he might have just implied, Lancer quickly shook his head.]

Sh-should it not be any Servant's wish to see his Master's growth and success? To hear he might have attained such a thing is all I could ever ask, though I doubt it was due to any influence of mine.

What...

[Now it's Diarmuid's turn to be momentarily confused before what Lancer is implying hits him. Then, he turns bright red.]

No! I didn't mean...

[He swears softly in Ancient Gaelic under his breath.]

I just...thought maybe you were upset I was going to go back with him. The war...is over for me and I have nothing waiting for me besides oblivion back home. Going with him gives me something to look forward to. A way to finally fulfill my wish...

[Lancer shook his head, frowning.]

It is no concern of mine what he does or with who. While it's true I am...conflicted, shall we say...over the fact that this one has taken another version of myself as his Servant, my own Master is not here. When all this has returned to normal, he will be waiting for me in Fuyuki City and it is him I must return to.

Besides...I may not be much of a scholar, but I'm no idiot. It's clear you must care for him, and I trust myself to see to it he's kept in good hands.

[A rare bit of confidence glints in Diarmuid's eyes.]

Don't be conflicted. Be proud. He obviously has taste and knows there is no better servant to have than a version of you. What does that say for how much of an impression you made on him?

[The confidence flees though, after a moment, and Diarmuid unconsciously starts fidgeting with his ring.]

It is going to be a few weeks before my powers return to full. His are at full now, though. Perhaps it would be wise for him to recontract with you instead of me. I will still fight with him, but that way he won't be without someone he can call with a command spell during Ruana's month...

...I shouldn't.

[Lancer folded his arms, looking away.]

Ask me to protect him and I shall, but this seems...important to you, is it not?

It...is. The two of us being bonded in the only way we can think of that might make him taking me back to his world be possible, but....what good is that if he is broken by this place in the meantime?

[Diarmuid closes his eyes for a moment to hide the pain in them.]

I have given my life for him before. I just want him to be safe and if that means letting him bond with you instead...

[Shaking his head, Lancer reached over and rested a hand on Diarmuid's shoulder.]

'If'. We sell ourselves even shorter than our own Masters. With two of us working to protect him, such a thing is surely impossible. Raise your head and stand straight--do you not have a Master worth taking pride in?

[Diarmuid gives him a startled look and then smiles sheepishly.]

I do and you...sound like him. Or maybe he sounds like you all things considered. Either way, he would be so mad at me if he heard me say that.

[He shakes his head.]

I really have to work on that taking my own advice thing. Of course you are right.

Then stop talking so foolishly. Perhaps we can't fully live up to what they think of us, but surely we can try.

[Diarmuid laughs softly.]

He really is going to be happy to see you, once he gets over the shock that is. I can't wait to see his face...

[The cheerful disposition dropped off Lancer's face, replaced with something close to hesitance.]

Is that...is it really okay for me to cross paths with him? I--he does have you, after all. And what if that causes some problem between timelines?

[Diarmuid raises an eyebrow at Lancer.]

Do you really think there is any way you are going to be able to hide from him? Believe me. He will find you and then he will lecture you for hiding from him. You do not want this professor lecturing you.

And if you are lucky, after that, he won't set the maid loose on you...

...He's only gotten better at shouting with time, hasn't he?

It's either that or murder his students and that would be pretty frowned on I suspect.

[Diarmuid rolls his eyes.]

Except for Flatt Escardos. He's mine when we get back, I swear...

So...he's a teacher now, is he? [Lancer seemed interested, sounding hopeful he'd be able to hear more about this.] My Master truly seems very clever, so I'm glad he's able to put that to use.

He is.

[A smug look crosses Diarmuid's face.]

He actually took over the position and the title of the one who so unjustly mocked him. I am very proud of him for that bit of work. It's good to see that power in the hands of one who will actually use it the way it should be used.

Really--that's wonderful. I knew he could accomplish so much more than he seemed to believe he could.

Indeed, and feel free to tell him that as often as you can. He can use every bit of encouragement we can give him.

[Diarmuid frowns slightly.]

Everything else aside, he has taken a lot on himself here. He was one of the heads of the collar fluid research even though it isn't really his specialty and even now he presses himself hard to find whatever he can that might help in anyway. I joked with him not long ago I would be angry if he asked Riki to move his room to the Laboratory...

It's not really that much of a joke, though...
