He doesn't like to hear it and neither do any of the friends and family I have made here.

[Diarmuid rests his hand over his heart.]

Perhaps technically we are Servants but in our hearts we are still what we were when we first lived...human.

[Honestly confused, Lancer seemed to falter as he spoke.]

Servants aren't meant to be human.

Servants are also not meant to live beyond their part in the war and yet I have lived for over a year since then. A year...gives you a lot of time to think about things.

[He falls silent for a moment and then shrugs.]

This Tower kind of takes what is suppose to be and turns it on its head anyway. It is easier just not to fight it. Is it really so bad to be allowed to be human again after...how things ended?

[He looked away uneasily, starting to fidget again.]

I suppose there isn't any war here, but...would it really be acceptable for me to do something like that?

[Diarmuid gives his double a lopsided grin.]

Do you really think Waver is going to deem it acceptable if you don't?

I doubt that he would. It seems as though he has some distaste for my own stance on the matter.

He has grown quite stubborn in his old age...

I don't think he would take too kindly to hearing that. Am I going to have to defend my alternate Master's honor?

It depends. Are we arguing the validity of him being stubborn or old?

[Diarmuid laughs.]

Though, I suppose I, of all people, shouldn't be calling anyone old.

[Diarmuid shakes his head for a moment, and then a curious look fills his eyes.]

Can I ask you an odd question? Did you happen to look in your trunk before you left your room?

Ah--no, I didn't. Though I do recall seeing such a thing when I awoke, I was more concerned with finding my Master before anything else.

Why, was it important?

When you arrive, the Administrators try to help you settle in easier by giving you several items from your home world. They are only copies, but when they are copies of things you never thought you would see again...

[Diarmuid shrugs, the sheepish look back on his face.]

I was just kind of curious what they saw fit to give to you and if it was anything like what I got.

[Lancer idly raised a hand to the right side of his face, concerned.]

...do hope they were at least kind enough to remember my sunglasses.

[Diarmuid smiles and pulls a pair of sunglasses from the pocket where he stashed them for safekeeping when the orcs attacked.]

They meant a lot to him and so they were one of the things he got when he arrived here. He gave them to me for the same reason he gave them to you, but if you need them...

[Faltering again, Lancer stared at the sunglasses for a moment before shaking his head.]

No, I...you should-...

[Diarmuid frowns for a moment, but then slides the glasses onto his face.]

I will keep them for now. Let me know if you arrived with yours or not. If not, we will figure something out. My curse has never been at full power in this place save for once, but it is unpredictable and that makes it very hard to deal with.

[Lancer simply gave a slight nod in response; apparently the feeling of being replaced wasn't so easily brushed off.]

[Diarmuid knows that down look too well and, if his double doesn't move quickly, he will find himself flicked in the forehead again.]

Ow--stop that! And how exactly am I not meant to feel as though someone's merely taken my place with him?

[Diarmuid gives Lancer a stern look.]

If you cannot take my word for it, then at least prove yourself not to be a liar and trust his.

I trust my Master absolutely. But I also trust in myself to manage to disappoint him.

[A knowing look enters Diarmuid's eyes.]

Tell me once when you have disappointed him.

[Lancer actually took half a step back, glancing around nervously.]
