I am sure you can fight with whoever you want to. After all, forcing a partnership never works out.

[Diarmuid pauses to give his brother a serious look.]

But you realize that White and your ponies won't be able to fight like the pokemon can. They fight in different ways.

Yes, I know. But they're my favorite partners. I'm sure I can train them to fight alongside me somehow.

I just wanted to make sure.

[Diarmuid hands a new dish to his brother.]

Will you be training Grey too?

[beforetights]

Yes, if you want me to! But he's your hound! You should train him! He'd love that!

[He wipes at the new dish.]

Oh, I will. Don't worry about that.

[Diarmuid laughs.]

But just think how much cooler it would be to fight with a matched set of hounds instead of just one.

[His eyes go wide as he realizes what Diarmuid is saying.]

Yeah, it would be much cooler! Like, one on each side! And they could pin down an enemy together!

Exactly.

[Diarmuid knows his brother by now and is not surprised by that reaction.]

There is a reason we train our dogs in pairs back home.

[beforetights]

That's true! That's true!

[If he wasn't cleaning things, he'd be bouncing up and down.]

So I'll train both Grey and White in fighting then! You teach them hunting!

I don't know how much hunting we can do around here, but I should look into it, shouldn't I?

[Diarmuid pauses in his dish washing to ruffles his brother's hair with a slightly damp hand.]

It would be a shame if they couldn't be taught to hunt, wouldn't it?

[beforetights]

[He giggles as he feels Diarmuid's soggy hand on his head.]

It really would! They're built for hunting things, so it would waste their talents if they couldn't hunt!

Indeed. I will send a message to Lady Irene. Perhaps she can tell us where we might be able to take them hunting.

[Diarmuid returns to the dishes, rinsing off the last one and handing it to his brother.]

I'm going to start putting things away, okay? And then we can go practice.

[beforetights]

Wahoo!

[It's all he can do to keep from throwing the plate up in the air in his excitement.]

Hurry hurry hurry!

[Though he is smiling, Diarmuid does shake a finger at his brother.]

Careful. Remember, if we break something we will have to clean it up before we can go out.

[His face falls.]

Aw, come on. Can't we train first and clean later?

Children can get away without cleaning up before they leave to do something else, but knights cannot.

[Diarmuid motions out toward the dishes.]

It won't take long and then we can spend all day training if you want.

[beforetights]

...Alright, I'll do my duty as a knight!

[He sticks the plate he's finished wiping on the rack.]

Hold the door open. I'll put these back in the cupboard.

[thepursued]

Not all knightly duties are pleasant. At least this one will be fast, though.

[Diarmuid holds the door open as requested.]

Just remember to be careful.

[beforetights]

I will, I will!

[Standing on his tiptoes, he starts to stuff the dishes in the cupboard. To his credit, he doesn't break any.]

[Diarmuid watches his brother as he puts the dishes away, reaching up to balance or shift dishes as it is needed to make sure nothing falls.]

You're doing well, brother. Already, we're almost done and now we won't have to worry about stopping early to come in and to take care of this.

[beforetights]

[He nods and grabs another bunch of dishes. After stuffing them in the cupboard, he closes the door.]

Now we're all done. Come on! Training time!

[Diarmuid smiles, nodding in agreement.]

You are correct. What do you want to practice with today? Your spear or your sword?

[beforetights]

Hm...how about the sword? We've been training with the spear a lot lately!

[thepursued]

Sword it is. Give me a moment to get my things and dress and we can go out. Get your sword and meet me at the door.

[It doesn't take Diarmuid long to get dressed for the day and gather his weapons--one from the kitchen where he had left it after realizing there was no intruder and one from the bedroom--and soon he is at the door ready to go.]

Do you have everything you will need?

[By the time Diarmuid finishes getting his weapons, Cu Chulainn has picked up the practice swords that Diarmuid had left with him after they had both come back into the city.]

Yeah, I'm ready now!

[He hold up the swords.]

I wanna try to dual wield like you today! Is that alright?

It is, but you have to remember what I told you.

[Diarmuid opens the door and waves for his brother to go out it before closing it behind them.]

Duel-wielding takes twice the concentration that wielding just one weapon does. You have to make sure you don't let yourself be distracted.
