[If he is honest with himself, that is something that Diarmuid has feared. Deep inside, the thought has terrified him. He's known several people who have had other versions of themselves appear in the Tower. So far, he hasn't been one of them, but there is nothing that says that can't still happen. What if someday Waver's Diarmuid is in that group of newcomers that shows up every month? Will he have to let Waver go? Would he even be able to go through with it, though it would be the right thing to do?
Fortunately, it seems like that particular fear will never come to pass.]
Thank you... I...
[His voice trembles almost like he's going to cry, but these would be tears of relief and joy, not sadness.]
I was afraid... It is stupid, but I was afraid...
[Afraid of losing what means so much to him. Afraid of being a mere replacement yet again...]

I made you a promise, and I don't break my promises if I can help it. No matter what happens, I won't leave you.
[Waver smiled, though his tone had a serious edge to it.]
You're as much 'my Diarmuid' now as he ever was, and you'll never be any kind of replacement. Understand?
no subject
Though...hearing Waver call him 'my Diarmuid' might just have gone a long way toward helping him believe even deep down in that dark part of him that doesn't seem to believe anything anymore.]
I...understand. Thank you. I needed to hear that...

[One of Diarmuid's hands shifts so that it is resting over the spot on his chest he'd driven his spear through.]
After he made me kill myself, something woke up inside of me. I've mentioned it before. It's something dark. It doesn't trust anything. It doesn't believe anyone. It doubts everyone and everything. I hate it, Waver. I hate it! I can't make it stop and I can't make it listen.
I have been trying to figure out what to do, but I still don't know...

[Waver rested his hand over Diarmuid's own, sighing.]
I know it's difficult and you might not know where to start, but you can trust me. Sure, I'm not perfect, but I'll give everything I have trying not to let you down.

[Diarmuid turns away, ashamed.]
I don't know what it is. Hate. Anger. Spite. I just want it gone...but I know it never will be. Not now that it's awake. I don't think I can go back to how I was before no matter how much I want to.

[Diarmuid would like to be. He's always been something else before now. A knight. A hero. A Servant. All of those things have always required him to be more than human or in some cases forget what it is to be human all together.]
I want to be. I have been trying to be...
[But deep down in that dark part of himself, he's still not sure if he is allowed to be...]
no subject
[Waver planted a light kiss to Diarmuid's forehead, laughing softly.]
I should say that if the second Lord El-Melloi can let himself be human once in a while, you're more than allowed to as well.
no subject
Yes, I guess you are right. I want to be human, but at the same time I want to have focus I need to help others...
[He gives Waver a gentle look.]
...to help you. Sometimes I fear I will never find that balance.
no subject
[He curled up against Diarmuid's side with a contented sigh, arms wrapped securely around his friend's waist.]
Even if I should believe in nothing else, I have absolute faith in you.
no subject
[One of Diarmuid's hands threads its way into Waver's hair while the other rests over the hands at his waist..]
I am never going to stop trying. One day I will see your faith rewarded. I promise.
no subject
I know, Diarmuid. All I could ever ask is that you try the best you can and never give up. You can do that for me, right?
no subject
[Diarmuid leans down to place a gentle kiss on Waver's forehead.]
We have too much to do for me to ever give up.
no subject
[He leaned his head on Diarmuid's shoulder, closing his eyes.]
It's alright. We're unstoppable as long as we're together, so there's nothing to worry about no matter how hard things might get.
no subject
Yes, though I think what we should probably do together right now is try and get some more sleep. What do you think?

Don't be sorry. You know you can wake me whenever you need to. Honestly, seeing your memories is a lot better than seeing my own sometimes. Especially with how this place twists things. I just wish you would get to see some of my happier memories. There are some. I promise.

Oh? Prove it then.
no subject
Right now? I thought we were supposed to be sleeping.
no subject
We could be. Or we could tell each other stories to try and drive away the bad memories. I will leave it up to you since you are the one who actually needs to have sleep.
