[Diarmuid gives Waver a real smile when he feels the eyes on him lessen and then shakes his head.]
I think if there was a way, I would have found it by now and I most certainly have not.

[Back to drumming his fingers on the table, Waver looked around before resting his head on his other hand.]
What about you? Are you sure you're alright with being in a place like this? I mean, I'm hardly going to keep you here if you're uncomfortable.
no subject
I will be fine. You are here and that makes a lot of things that normally wouldn't be bearable okay. We're a team, after all.
What should we do when the party is over and the team has successfully managed not to kill anyone?
no subject
I don't know about you, but I fully plan to bugger off as early as is socially acceptable before the overwhelming aura of stuffiness chokes me to death.
Maybe I'll be fortunate enough to take an attractive date home with me--do you in your professional opinion think my luck might just be good enough for that?
no subject
It's possible. After all, it's New Years and all kinds of new things start on this night.
[He turns back to Waver and winks.]
If you tell me your type, I can see if I find anyone matching it.
no subject
I'm afraid that last one rather limits my options.
no subject
[Diarmuid mock frowns for a moment before grinning again.]
However, you just happen to be in luck. I know someone who fits all of that. He even can tolerate you. What do you think of that?
no subject
[Waver actually had trouble keeping a straight face for once as he said that, laughing quietly.]
no subject
Drat. I know I saw him a few moments ago. Where did he go?
[He turns back to Waver with a frown.]
That is too bad. I guess you will have to settle for me instead. I 'tolerate' you just fine. I just don't know about those other things you asked for though...

[Without looking, Waver reached up to accept another glass of champagne offered by a suspiciously silver maid dressed in red and gold. She held out a second to Diarmuid without a sound.]
For now, I just advise trying to survive the social aspect of things. It's terrible, but I'm afraid I'm obligated to do this.
VH-tan! :-D
[Diarmuid takes the offered drink, though the look he gives it clearly indicates he wishes it was something much stronger than champagne.]
I wonder...since I am obligated to protect you, if your sanity started to become endangered...lets say from boredom...would I be obligated to take you out of here despite your other obligations?
i had to :B

[Diarmuid grins.]
You could always say I didn't know. That I did it without your permission, horrid, horrid person that I am...
no subject
Given the options, I'll stick it out here a bit longer.
no subject
[Diarmuid gazes out over the crowd.]
I suppose dragging you out to dance would also end with a lecture. Too bad. I am sure dying of boredom would be the least of our concerns then...
no subject
[Waver seemed genuinely annoyed by that, but he made an attempt to shrug it off.]
Bloody Association.
no subject
I don't suppose there is any place more private where we could? Someplace close enough to qualify as as still here, while hiding us from prying eyes?
[Truth be told, he is a little annoyed at being denied the chance as well.]
no subject
...Being an aristocrat is a terribly tedious and irritating thing, have I mentioned that lately?
no subject
[Diarmuid leans a little closer so his soft voice can be heard.]
I can see to keeping you warm.
no subject
[Waver faltered for a second, quickly trying to look disapproving.]
L-look, you could at least save the flirting for when we're alone.
no subject
[Diarmuid laughs and leans back, crossing his arms over his chest loosely.]
Who said I was flirting? I was merely stating a fact. I am a servant. Servants don't get cold. Therefore, I could keep you warm even in the coldest weather.
If I were flirting, believe me, you would know.
no subject
And I think you and I both know that's not very far from blatant flirting.
no subject
[A light blush colors Diarmuid's cheeks for just a moment before fading. Even so, he waves a hand dismissively to try and cover for it.]
There is a very large difference, thank you very much. Especially if you are trying to deny such a thing ever happened to, lets say, a rather frightening teenager who is hell bent on giving a lecture.

You know, I would keep arguing, but sadly, I think you are actually right.
