I had suggested to Tohsaka we both operate out of her mansion, but she raised the point that the heir to one of the three families and a lord of the Association working together would draw far too much attention. So we'll be here barring some catastrophe or another. Is that alright with you?

[Diarmuid falls silent, looking down at his tea. Part of him would like to sit and enjoy the rest of it, but he has a duty to do. He stands up and steps away from the table, before looking over at Waver.]
I have no problems. It is your choice as Master. However, if this is to be our base, I should go and patrol the area. The war may not have officially begun yet, but that is no excuse for me not taking your safety seriously.

[Diarmuid bows his head slightly.]
I do not wish to question your preparations, but I do not wish to place you at risk either. Would you rather I remain here? I am sure there is probably more you need to tell me...

Do...you wish me question you?
[Questions? Oh yes, Diarmuid has them, but it is not really his place to question his Master's wishes. He is merely suppose to do as he is asked to ensure their victory.
But he is also confused and curious. So curious...]

However, when he speaks, it is not a question he asks.]
Thank you for letting me taste it again. Honey was one of my favorite things growing up.

[Waver smiled slightly, finishing his own cup of tea once he'd said that.]

You say that you are nontraditional. You know that I am a traditional thinker. What do you want me to do differently so that I don't become a hindrance to you?
no subject
You're not going to be a hindrance to me. All I'd ask is that you at least make an attempt to act natural. If you want to question me or some choice I make, then go ahead and do it. If there's anything you might want or need, speak up and I'll make sure you get it.

[Diarmuid gives Waver a confused look.]
Am...I not acting naturally?

[Diarmuid motions toward Waver's hand that carries his command spells.]
You command me. It is only natural that I place you above me. Without you, I could not be here.

[Diarmuid shuts his eyes. He is so used to following a Lord and everything the Grail has told him about war had prepared him to serve another Lord. It hadn't prepared him at all to have a partner...
...let alone one who doesn't even want his command spells.
Those words cause Diarmuid's eyes to snap back open and he looks at Waver in shock.]
Do you really trust me that much? That much that you don't even want your command spells?
no subject
Please, of all the heroic spirits that could stab me in the back? Your name's nowhere on the list. There's no need for me to order you around like some stuck-up idiot.
no subject
[It might seems obvious to Waver, but Diarmuid is still quite shocked at his words. As he thinks about it, though, Diarmuid's expression shits from shock to something much softer.
It seems Waver wasn't kidding about not being very traditional.]
Then it is only right that I trust you as much as you trust me. Thank you. Trust...is not something people have always found it easy to give me no matter how good my intentions.
[Stupid curse.]

[Diarmuid stops short and corrects himself.]
You seem like an honest person and your goal seems to be an honorable one. There is no reason not to trust you. If the Grail is the source of the destruction that you saw, then it cannot be allowed to happen again. If that requires its destruction, then so be it.

[Waver stood up and walked to Diarmuid's side of the table, extending his hand with a smile.]
Please, let's work together once more and protect this city the best that we're able.
no subject
I will give all that I am to see you and them protected. Your goal will be realized, I swear it.
no subject
...damn, you can be so difficult.
[There was a faint tone of affection to Waver's words; for the second time he knelt down as well to meet Diarmuid's eye level, keeping a hold on the knight's hand.]
Please try not to do that. I'm not so important that someone like you should be bowing to me.
no subject
[Diarmuid looks down for a moment, ashamed for having slipped up again. However, he only does it for a few seconds before looking up again, a gentle and amused look on his face.]
It's going to take me a while to get used to all of this. May I apologize in advance, so I don't feel like I have to do it later?
[He's actually joking, mostly...]
