We can wait until we get to my Master. Then you can carry me.

[She reaches up to grab his hand.]

Can we hold hands right now?

[He stands back up and carefully takes her hand.]

Lead the way, my...dear brave knight!

[Yes, he just barely left 'cute' of out that statement. Diarmuid doesn't want to die today.]

[She nods and leads him. After a while, they arrive at the Einzbern castle, where Saber rings the doorbell.]

Remember--stay behind me. I'll explain.

Sounds good!

[Diarmuid nods, standing several steps behind her and making an effort to look as non-threatening as possible.]

I will follow your lead.

[chavalry]

[The door gets answered by a strange, dark-suited woman who instantly aims a gun at both of them. Saber holds up a hand to stop her.]

Hold, Lady Maiya! I am Saber. Look, my sword is the same.

[She holds up her sword as proof.]

Lancer is my ally. He will remain outside lest invited in.

[She turns around to Lancer.]

Will that arrangement satisfy you, Lancer?

[Diarmuid places a hand against his chest, bowing.]

If that is how you wish to handle things, then I will not argue. My purpose was to see you back here safely after what happened. I am sure you have nothing to worry about in your own Master's home.

[chavalry]

[Maiya stares at them both for a moment, and then turns around and slams the door in their face.]

...Do you think she's getting Master?

[That certainly wasn't a very warm welcome. For the first time that night, Saber feels a tinge of irritation, since this is far worse than what Lancer deserves.]

I am afraid I have no idea...

[Diarmuid looks at the door, bewildered.]

Is she always so...hospitable?

[chavalry]

She is harsh and implacable, but then again, she works with my Master, which means she might be put in danger at any time.

[A pause.]

I do not think she spoke much to me either...

[oathshackledbird]

What about your connection to your master?

[Diarmuid brushes off the discussion of the woman's behavior for now, since it's not the important thing here.]

Can you use it to call him out to you?

[chavalry]

Perhaps. But, do I have the right to disturb him in this manner? I do not know if he would appreciate it.

[oathshackledbird]

Of course you do, Saber!

[Diarmuid seems shocked she is even asking.]

Would he rather you keep quiet about something so vital as this? He needs to know what happened.

[chavalry]

He also needs time to prepare. He is...a very meticulous man.

[Too meticulous, sometimes.]

[Diarmuid nods.]

Another reason he should be told as soon as possible. We don't know how long this will last. He will need his time to plan.

[chavalry]

I will ask him to come through our link.

...How did you work a spirit link again?

[She's not too good at this now that she's a child...]

[Oh, don't laugh, Diarmuid. Don't laugh...]

Can you feel your connection to him at all? If so, just think it along that...in the direction you feel him in.

[chavalry]

[She closes her eyes and does as he says.]

...Yes, I sense him. Here, let me talk.

Master, please come over. I am trapped as a child. Lancer is with me.

[The answer she gets makes her frown]

He says to wait. He'll come when he's ready.

When he is ready? How long with that be?

[A frustrated look crosses Diarmuid's face.]

Does he not care that you are in danger while like this? I will fight to protect you and I know you will fight beside me, but if we are attacked by several others...

[chavalry]

I don't know...

[A second later, she blinks and touches her forehead with a hand.]

He says he's sending Maiya.

[And indeed, it's not long before Maiya opens the door again, comes out, and shuts the door.]

Can he not come himself?

[It annoys Diarmuid that her Master is blowing off such a serious situation. He should be taking care of it himself instead of sending his subordinate to do it. Still, Diarmuid supposes it could be worse. He could have ignored her completely.

He remains quiet as the door opens since Saber knows her Master and his fellows the best. Until she says different, he will stick to their plan of having him follow her lead.]

[chavalry]

[A little while after Maiya comes out, everyone has their answer as Irisviel and then Kiritsugu follow her, Kiritsugu armed with his walther.]

Master!

[Mordred quickly kneels down as she sees her Master. If anything, that modest gesture should indicate all is not well with her.]

[Indeed, Diarmuid can't help but scowl when he sees the motion. He starts to speak, but stops himself. After all, does he not kneel to his own Master because he is his Master? Even if they don't agree or approve of each other, he must bow to the man's authority. It is how things work.

Still, Saber is not him...

As much as he may wish to say something, he again remains silent to see what Saber and her Master do next.]

[chavalry]

[It takes a while for Saber to explain things to her Master. Or rather, explain things to Irisviel so Irisviel can explain to her husband. And, of course, Maiya is giving Lancer the stink-eye the entire time.]

[After Saber's explanation is done, she waits for her Master to say something. Instead, she's just greeted by silence as Irisviel and Kiritsugu exchange some glances and gestures that she cannot understand. As a result, even while kneeling, she's starting to fidget.]

[But the silent exchange does get done. The first thing Irisviel says is a request for Lancer to leave.]

B-but...!

[At this point, Saber can no longer kneel and maintain her silence. Lancer is her friend. Even if they are technically serving different Masters, she feels better with him around.]

[A second later, though, she notices her transgression and blushes, quickly going back to her silent kneeling.]

[Diarmuid isn't exactly sure how to respond. There is no reason Saber wouldn't be safe with her Master and his people, so leaving her now, as requested, would be okay. However, she seems to want him to stay and that makes him less willing to leave even if that means that it might take longer to get her back to normal.

Besides, he knows far too well that as soon as he returns to his Master and reports to him about what has happened, his ability to protect her will be gone. In fact, his Master might well order him to come back here and attempt to kill her while she is so weakened. It is why, in the end, he swings toward remaining here as long as possible. Ideally, until she is back to normal.]

With all do respect, it might be in your best interests for me to remain. At the moment, my orders are to aid you and Saber however I can. However, as soon as I return to my Master and report what has happened, I have no doubt those orders will change, and I will be forced to become your enemy. Would it not be wiser to have me remain so that you have one less concern to worry about while attempting to break Caster's spell?

[chavalry]

Yes, it is as he says. Pleeeease, Lady Irisviel? My lord?

[Though Saber tries to stay serious, she can barely contain her glee.]

[After some more silent communication, Kiritsugu steps back into the house, followed by Maiya and Iri. As Saber tries to go in after them, Maiya slams the door, almost quick enough to get her in the nose.]
