[Finding a nickname Aengus would consider dumb will be quite the challenge, Zett. Good luck with that.]

By all means, Lord Takajo. I would never dream of not returning the honor you have given to me.

[He places a hand against his chest and bows his head ever so slightly.]

I am Aengus Og, known better by some as Aengus, the young. My son tells me that they now call my people the Tuatha Dé Danann, Children of the Goddess Danu. It is a fitting title, I think.

Is that so? Then your son would be Diarmuid Ua Duibhne, wouldn't he? We're acquainted.

[He doesn't correct the 'Lord Takajo' thing right now.]

[A wide smile crosses Aengus' face at the mention of his son.]

Why yes! That would be my Little Bird. Well, he is more of a hawk these days, but...

[The fair-haired god laughs.]

I do hope your acquaintance with him so far has been a positive one. He is a wonderful boy, but luck... Ah, that has never been his strong suit...

We've done some things together to help the tower residents. He's been missing the little birds of his own, though. I'm sure having you here has helped a little.

[For a moment, Aengus is confused, his mind immediately jumping to deny the idea of Diarmuid's precious children being in this horrid place. Surely, his son would have said something if they were...

Then he remembers how his son had talked of the boy who shares the room with him and the young green-haired girl who shines so brightly despite the dark things she has to face everyday.]

Ah...you refer to those he has adopted in this place, don't you? Has he lost some recently?

[Understanding suddenly flashes across Aengus' face, and he looks up at the sky.]

Oh...my Precious One. Why did you not tell me? You know not how to deal with such loss. It's not something you ever had to face...

People come and go. And that's not something we can prevent, but it hurts everyone.

[Zett speaks softly.]

[sparkledad]

Yes, especially one whose heart is so kind and whose soul is so pure...

[Aengus closes his eyes, shaking his head sadly.]

I did him no favors, I suspect. Guarding that soul as long as I did. But still he has grown strong. Perhaps, it was not all for ill.

He is strong. He's done a lot for the people here, sometimes at his own expense. But I think he'll turn out all right, from what I know of him.

Do not take me wrong. I know he will...

[Aengus' hands flutter lightly, betraying a slight bit of agitation though his voice is calm.]

He has always been strong. It is just... I would have rathered his journey be less...harsh...

That's something that can't be fixed, at least not the journey up to now. You can only make it easier in the future.

I have every intention of doing that. For as long as this place will grant me the chance to.

[Aengus' eyes grow distant for a moment before becoming determined.]

I allowed my watch upon him to lapse once and it cost him his life. I will not allow it to happen again.

[Aengus bows gracefully to Zett, several butterflies circling happy around him.]

I expect in this place even the luckiest of people will need all the well wishes they can get and he is not the luckiest of people, unfortunately.

Lord Takajo is a little much, don't you think?

[Zebul might have once been a god, but Zett's not as arrogant as he is.]

I am merely being respectful.

[Aengus gives Zett a confused look.]

Does being given such respect bother you?

It's undeserved. I'm strong, sure, but I don't need formal titles.

[sparkledad]

Hush now!

[Aengus waves a finger at Zett.]

All are deserving of respect. Especially those who are as skilled as you have just said you are!

I guess... It just feels weird.

[sparkledad]

[Aengus gracefully curls his hand back to tap at his chin.]

Why is respect such an odd thing for people now? I do not understand. Nor does my son. What has changed?

Many things change over time. That's what time is supposed to do.

[sparkledad]

Perhaps, but some things should not change. If we lose them, we lose ourselves in the process.

[Aengus shakes his head.]

My son has told me how it seems like our world has lost much of its magic. That the people on longer see the beauty in the world around them. They only seek power and wealth in things that do not grant either. If that is not being lost...I know not what is.

Even if it is lost, what can be done about it? Particularly by an outsider with his own magic, people are resistant to being made to change even for the better.

[sparkledad]

Being resistant is not the same as being unwilling. You cannot know what miracles might be accomplished if you never try.

[Oh dear. This 'trying' thing might sound familiar and now Zett knows where Diarmuid gets it from.]

All things come to those who try hard enough and never give up. All lost can be found again. It does not matter if one is an outsider. Sometimes, it is an outside perspective that can give you knowledge when all else has failed.

It's that kind of thinking that gets the outsider mobbed. I'd place my own well-being over trying to change the world unless it was the most important thing in the world.

[Such as the apocalypse. That he can help with.]

[Disapproval crosses Aengus' face for a moment, before he shakes his head and tsks softly.]

What is the most important thing to one is often nothing to another and vice versa. Who am I to deny help to one person's important thing just because another does not deem it so? No, it is better just to help wherever I am allowed.

[Within reason, of course. Aengus is a man of honor. His son would not value it so much otherwise.]
