[Despite Ardyn's worrying and fretting, the plans Regis had set out to allow the redhead to work his way not only into Insomnia, but his inner circle as well, worked smoothly. Not one to take such blessings for granted, Regis had thanked whatever Astrals were still on their side while they put their rebellious little plan into motion. Honestly, he's a little surprised that Bahamut hasn't taken action yet, but he has no wish to rush that day. The longer the Draconian stays silent, the longer they have to plan how to deal with him.
Today's chaos has nothing to do with Bahamut, though. When the door to Ardyn's "office" opens a little harder than expected, there is no out of breath soldier or harried assistant looking for him. Instead it is a bewildered king--who should actually be in a meeting right now--four children and six kittens. Regis has Noctis in one arm and the dark-haired prince is holding tightly to a black kitten with one hand and holding onto his father's vest with the other. Regis' other hand is holding Prompto's while the blonde juggles yet another black kitten. Following behind the trio are Ignis and Gladio, the two older boys having been tasked with corralling two black kittens each.]
Please tell me you've seen a mother cat around here sometime this morning. The boys may have borrowed somethings of hers.
[Ardyn put up an excellent act of formality when it was called for, but a quick assessment of the situation said this was not one of those times. He looked over Regis and the others with a bewildered stare, blinking a few times as he evaluated the urgency of the situation (such as it was).]
[The sound that escapes Regis is part sigh and part gasp as the kitten Noctis is holding renews its squirming and his son pulls on his vest harder than he realizes while trying to keep the kitten from jumping down. Though he knows Noctis would rather be held at the moment, he's getting bigger and harder to carry. It's best both he and the kitten are put on the floor before someone--most likely Regis--is hurt.
Fortunately, before Noctis can complain, both Prompto and Ignis swarm him and direct him toward an open spot on the floor where they can set the kittens down to play. Gladio follows a little more warily, keeping an eye out for danger even though they are in an office in the middle of the Citadel.
Once the boys seem settled, Regis drops into a chair near Ardyn's desk harder than perhaps necessary. It's been a while since there's been such chaos, and while he's glad it the boys causing it and not Niflheim, it still feels a little bit like he's been at war.]
Young Gladiolus is most likely correct in what he told me. She was probably nearby, but out of sight when they found the kittens, and Noctis and Prompto scared her off when they ran in to play with them. Cor is going to have his work cut out for him finding her, but he probably got the easy job.
[In fact, Cor had seemed rather pleased to have that job instead of taking Regis' place in a meeting like Clarus or playing herder for a group of boys and kittens.]
Will you be upset if I add minion herder to your list of job duties?
