[What indeed. Diarmuid cannot help but raise an eyebrow at her reaction and wonder himself what has changed. Does she no longer think herself beautiful? Did something happen besides just the fall that has changed her view?
But, it is a question for later. For now, he accepts to her request and starts singing the song she has mentioned, fingers moving gracefully over the harp strings even though it has been a long time since he played.
[The song goes a long way to soothing her, relaxing enough for her to get up and return to her flowers. The last few made their way into the jars, and she wanders back over to him, humming along.
[Diarmuid slips one arm around her, the other keeping the harp balanced so it won't fall.]
You are welcome. Hopefully, you weren't disappointed. It's been a while since I played, though it felt like it came back pretty well... [He leans down to press a kiss to the top of her head.]
[Diarmuid gives her a squeeze and then moves to put his harp back into its storage spot.]
Why don't we make something together? I want to spend time with you and I can think of no better way than that since you have relegated certain...activities to later. [He winks at her.]
[Giving him quite a knowing look, Grainne folds her arms and squints at him.]
Mmm, but I think if it were up to you, we would be doing nothing but those activities...
[She speaks mildly, but it's flat, pretending to be unamused though there's a certain sparkle and the corners of her lips twitch once or twice as if trying not to smile.]
Sandwiches.
[Less chance to burn something.]
We can use the last of the meat, and I brought back some cheese and wine in my bag.
[Diarmuid coughs softly, using it to cover a laugh.]
Is it my fault you are so desirable? Besides, you are also cute when you blush. Even if we do nothing, I cannot help but tease... [As she speaks of what they will have, he nods in agreement. Nothing that can be burnt. Good...]
Do you want to eat down there or up here amongst all your beautiful flowers? It will almost be like a picnic...
[He would suggest an actual picnic, but it's still a little too cool outside for that. Indoors will have to do.]
[She lowers her gaze slightly and mumbles something that sounds suspiciously like "Too desirable" under her breath, but the moment passes and she shakes herself, brightening up considerably.]
I want to eat up here with the flowers. I'm not comfortable down there... that place is for the students to practice in. But I did leave my dress and bag on the table.
[There is that odd reaction again and again Diarmuid has to fight to keep himself from asking her about it. He really wants to know, but at the same time, it is hard for him to want to ruin the good mood she is in...]
It is just a workspace no matter how inviting I try to make it.
[Diarmuid shakes his head, but he isn't upset. She is exactly right. Isn't that why he made an area for himself anyway?]
Do you want to stay here while I go and get what we need and the rest of your things?
[A concerned look crosses Diarmuid's face and he pauses instead of leaving the room to get her things.]
Is your stiffness getting worse? Do I need to see if I can figure out a different way for you to get up here? And, perhaps, see if I can find you a healer?
There's nothing a healer can do for it now. The healer that saw me through it said it might get a little worse... but I should try to exercise as much as I can.
[Grainne doesn't seem upset over it, but she does seem a little contrite she hasn't spoken to him the details of her accident yet. She doesn't want him to worry.]
Ah... I think that the healer also said I will be stiff for a long time because things are out of place, and it is up to my body to put them back. But I am supposed to get stronger, and when I walk up, I feel like there's not as much strength as there used to be.
Out of place? [Instead of making him feel better, her explanation actually worries Diarmuid more. He turns back to face her fully, going to get their food forgotten for the moment.]
Who was the healer you saw? Was it a druid? Or someone else? Much has changed between back then and modern day when it comes to medicine. I think I would like to have you talk to someone here anyway. Just in case there is something now that can help you. Maybe there isn't, but... [He would rather try and fail than not try at all.]
One of father's people... [That changes things, but doesn't. Diarmuid frowns, uncertain if he should continue to push or let things go for later considering how fidgety she is getting. Finally, he decides to let it go.]
We can give it a little more time, but if you keep feeling weaker... [Then, he will insist.]
Oh...yes...lunch. Let me go get your bag and what is downstairs...
[It doesn't take Diarmuid long to retrieve the items, but he doesn't do it as fast as he can so that he has some time to think. It is obvious there are things she is hiding...things she is afraid to talk to him about. They need to talk about them soon, so there is no more of this hiding and worrying...
When he returns to the loft he sets the bag on the table and then looks to her.]
Do you want to get the things out or should I? I don't know what you might have hidden in that bag of tricks...
[A faint blush tints her cheeks and she grabs the bag up without speaking, turning around so he can't see inside. The wine bottle and cheese come out, and she tosses the bag on their bed.]
There.
[Grainne's blush fades, and she goes back to the food, pulling her knife out to cut the meat and bread.]
I want to get fresh tomorrow, so help me finish this meat off.
[She pauses when she notices he is looking at her, knife partially buried in the meat.]
[There is a wary look on his face. He can't help it. Seeing her swing that knife around...
However, once she calls attention to the fact that he is still staring, Diarmuid shakes himself and shifts his gaze to the bag, hoping to distract her.]
So...what exactly are you hiding in there from me?
[His distraction doesn't work as well as he hoped. Grainne bows her head, feeling another blush come on to her cheeks, but this time it's one of shame and continues the cut she paused, easily slicing the meat into thin cuts for the sandwiches.
She really will never outlive that, will she? Maybe some day... she will have to talk to him about that night in earnest... maybe he would forgive her better if she tells him her side of things. She never had before, because she is afraid he would think she was making excuses for her behavior. That would have hurt more than anything...]
Something for me to sleep in. I don't want to be caught naked if I have to get up in the night...
[Though that's only part of it. The secret inside her bag is lingerie she had acquired after suggestions on sleepwear. Grainne has no idea how he'll react to it, and the idea makes her uneasy enough to shift on her feet while she's cutting.
[The sad part is that Diarmuid isn't holding that night against her at all. Not anymore. Not when it was the catalyst to them finally understanding each other. In fact, he has an odd fondness for that night now. It's why he jokes about it as he does.
He has no idea why she wouldn't feel the same...]
You could have used one of those shirts you got for me if you wanted something to sleep in...
[Diarmuid makes his way over to the bed and sits down, pulling the bag over so he can open it.]
[There's something pink and silky inside the bag, definitely too delicate to be called a nightgown, and only long enough to go to her knees.]
I thought it is. What do you think, dear heart? [She moves to slicing the bread next, letting the familiar action distract her for a second while he gets to the bag.]
I also got... what do they call them? Those modern things women wear. A little more comfortable than my bindings. [Setting the knife down, Grainne stretches her hands out and smiles.] I got tired of having only my dress this morning.
[Really, Grainne. Why are you asking him about modern clothing? He only knows the word because of the Grail. Diarmuid's confusion doesn't lessen when he pulls out the 'nightgown' and holds it up. It certainly is...pink and silky.]
I think my shirt would have covered more. Are you going to be warm enough in this?
Is there something wrong with me holding it up like this?
[He gives Grainne a curious look and then holds it out to her.]
Try it on. I can't decide if I like it and approve of you wearing it until I see it on you... [Oh dear...whatever could that twinkle in Diarmuid's eyes be there for?]

It seems to get more difficult going up and down the stairs than it used to. I can set the table while you're gone.

She stands then, going to where they store the food, and sifting through it for their lunch.]
