And here I am talking to you about such foolish things when there are much more important things you probably want to know about. How can I help you?

I'd like to know what I can do here if it does turn out to be reality. There's no sense waiting on that.

Sadly, it is reality. Thankfully, there is much to do around here to help others prepare and fight. Can you tell me where your skills lie or what special abilities you might have? That way I can tell you about the things you will be most able to do first.

Well, I do have some training in martial arts, but compared to people like you it's hardly worth bringing up. I'm excellent at paperwork?

Do you know much about science? Research for example?

I only have a high school education of it, but I was excellent in class.

That is a lot more experience than some of us have. There is a research project going on right now and I am sure those involved would love your help, but this is not a safe place to discuss the details.

[Diarmuid frowns slightly.]

Unfortunately, there are far too many unfriendly eyes and ears in this place.

We used to have a safe place to talk, but we don't any longer. I wonder if we ever will again...

We...probably have a whole lot of worse ahead of us before things get better. It is how wars are and this...this is a war you have been dropped into unfortunately.

It's nothing. Unfortunately, after being in this place for almost a year, my idea of a joke has become much darker than it used to be. It is hard not to let this place change you.

I kind of know how that can be... But I can talk abut that sort of thing later, it's really not that important.

It's very important. If you have a Master like Kayneth then I won't be able to sleep at night.

[He's serious about that.]

[A gentle look fills Diarmuid's eyes, though the light blush remains on his cheeks.]

You don't need to worry about that. He will never treat me like Kayneth did. He would rather die first. If it helps ease your mind any, there is a reason I call him my partner and not my master...

It's useless for me to argue that so I won't. Why do I get the feeling that you and my partner will get along very well? I will have to introduce you two. He needs more friends.
