Did you ask him what exactly that meant and perhaps if there was a way you could change that?

[Though he still asks, Diarmuid has the impression that her temperament might be part of the problem and that is not something very easily changed.]

[Diarmuid sighs, shaking his head. He can easily think of several things she is lacking, but is it really wise to give words to his thoughts?]

These are all things kings need that might be lacking in a knight or warrior no matter how great or well lauded they are.

[Diarmuid smiles gently in hopes of raising her spirits.]

He's not like you. He doesn't know anything about the human heart. He's just perfect and he can't see that I'm just like him in every way.

[Diarmuid shakes his head.]

To me, a person could not be perfect if they didn't know the human heart. Of course, the human heart is not something easily read. Often what one person sees is not there for another person.

He doesn't understand why I would completely reject Mother for him. Or would he understand how I can be born of Morgan, and yet be less her child than his son.

[She hugs her knees.]

He can't understand, just like he can't understand why people would want a traitor who ran off with his wife to be punished harshly and not just forgiven.

[Diarmuid nods sadly.]

It is hard when someone just doesn't seem to understand. I wonder...do you think he might think differently now? The world has changed so much as have views on so many things. Perhaps that chance would help him understand you better?

I don't know. His views wouldn't change with the times, would they?

What about you? Has this modern age made you change any of your ideas on things?

I...don't know. Some things are more accepted now. Some views more tolerated. From what I have heard, children disowning a parent is almost common now.

[He sighs, expression saddening.]

I...don't know if I want this time to change my views or not. It is good some of the things I just mentioned have happened, yet at the same time there are so many other things I dislike about this age. Many things, I do not understand.

[She snickers.]

[Diarmuid looks up at her with a startled expression.]

No! That's not it at all. I just... So many people don't care about loyalty, honor, and things like that anymore. They lie without thinking. They hurt others as easily as they breath. I don't understand how humans could have changed so much from when I lived.

They aren't very changed from when I lived. I've told you about those knights, blabbing so much about chivalry and then finding every way to go against the code without actually breaking it. And the stupid, weak, cowardly common crowd. People like you are the rare ones.

[Diarmuid looks down for a moment and then sighs.]

I wish I were not so rare. I didn't seem that different from others during my time...

You're a good man. And...you're human. You've grown up around humans, so everything they do looks natural to you. That's why you can't judge and think everyone is as good as you are.

[She hugs her knees even tighter.]

[Diarmuid leans forward and places a hand over the ones she has clasp around her knees.]

You are human too, you know. Even if the methods of your birth are not exactly normal, that doesn't make you not human.

[She winces at his touch.]

Have you ever heard of a human being made from only a father's sperm? Lady Irisviel and I are the same in that we were created to be beings above humans.

[She closes her eyes.]

Humans...they have to eat and sleep and take shits just not to die. And they spend so long as stumpy little urchins that adults have to take care of. And they're so fragile they break at a touch. It's so much better for me since I don't have to do any of that.

[Her last words don't sound very sure. After all, she would have liked a childhood...]

[Diarmuid draws his hand back slightly, startled by her wince, but after a moment he lets it settle over hers again. He notices that uncertainty in her voice. That is why the question he asks is a simple one.]

Do you want to be more than human?

O-of course I don't! Where did I give you that idea ?

You didn't. I just wanted to make sure I understood right.

[Diarmuid grins suddenly and points toward the window, giving her hand a small tug.]

Because it's morning. Lets go find your childhood.

[Her face flushes completely, and she responds by punching him in the arm. However, afterwards, she stands up and looks toward the door.]

I never wanna hear something as stupid as that again, but come on. You're the one who needs to try out the amusement park.

Yes, yes, of course. How could I forget?

[Diarmuid laughs and starts toward the door knowing she will follow him.]
