[A good-natured laugh rises in his throat, but he holds it back since he doesn't want her to react the wrong way. Still, Diarmuid's voice is light when he speaks.]

Do you expect me to say that I no longer feel pain from my wounds, nor any hatred toward Father and his knights? Or that I think angels have descended on a ladder of light and are singing into my ears?

I am glad to hear that. No one should be alone. It is...a terrible place to be.

[A frown crosses his face.]

They should not have picked me over our Lord. I was just a knight. One of many. He...was more. Even if he was...wrong...it should not have been me they chose to fight and die for.

[His voice gets softer.]

I did not deserve their loyalty. Not after what I did.

Haven't we just established you're a better man than any lord you ever had!? If they had not fought for you, who would they have fought for?

[Diarmuid shakes his head.]

It is not about if he was better than me or not. They swore their oaths to him, not me. They should have been fighting for him. By following me, they broke their oaths. I made them break their oaths. It should never have happened.

Wouldn't you chafe if your Lord ever made you do anything dishonorable? You always stood at my side even when your Master would have you do differently.
