[Even in her good mood, Grainne is smart enough to see that something is bothering him.]
No, they didn't. Why would it matter even if they had? What is wrong, fair one? Did something happen?
[Rotating the bundle, she pulls something out of it and sets the rest down again, holding only a flower crown. Quickly walking over to him, she stands on her toes and sets it on his head.]
I went to the baths and around to some of the shops, and then I went outside the city for a walk. Nobody else seems to be preparing. It's confusing.
[The crown makes him smile and it's almost enough to keep him from wanting to answer her question since the answer might darken her mood. Still, he knows she won't let things go that easily and avoiding the question will likely make her upset as well. He adjusts the crown slightly so it won't fall and then speaks.]
Shortly after I arrived here, a bunch of flowers appeared overnight in the center of the city. Despite it being so cold, they didn't die. They just were...there. Those who picked them or stayed in their presence for too long eventually became violent and confused. Then, the flowers and their effects disappeared as quickly as they appeared. It...was not the most pleasant of welcomes even if I did manage to avoid most of the trouble.
[When she mentions preparing, a confused look crosses his face. Diarmuid has to think for a moment, before he realizes what she thinks they should be preparing for...
How has so much time passed without him noticing?]
I...don't know how many besides you and I know that a holiday is coming. I don't know that it is celebrated anymore...
[Nodding, Grainne takes the explanation in stride. No wonder he had been so upset at first when she brought the flowers in... still, he says he was unaffected, but she does give him a hug for having to deal with it.]
I'm sorry if I startled you. I'll watch out for strange things like that in the future.
[Letting him loose, she starts pulling at the bodice of her dress, loosening it without much thought.]
Not even a bonfire? It doesn't seem right not doing anything at all. Especially with the new school to celebrate... I think it will do us both good.
[She seems more distressed over the lack of celebration than the flowers, really, or the fact she currently seems to be stripping in the middle of the school.]
This place seems to thrive on the strange. Sometimes it's harmless, but often it's---
[Diarmuid's words cut off as he notices what she is doing. A faint blush colors his cheeks as heat stirs inside of him.]
Grainne...what are you doing? Shouldn't you go upstairs if you need to change? Anyone could walk in... [Do us both good... Does she mean what he thinks she does by that, because that is how they ended up with five kids...]
[That isn't what she meant at all! And she would probably be amused and slightly miffed if she knew what he's thinking. As it is, when her bodice comes off, underneath is a light pink blouse with a small ruffle at the throat; far more modern than her current clothes.]
What? Oh, don't worry. I just couldn't...
[She trails off as she struggles with a knot on one of the ties in her skirt, but finally pulls it apart and the skirt falls, revealing her legs clad in short jean-shorts and stockings. She even had new shoes.]
It's so stuffy in here and I didn't have enough room in my bag for... [Looking up, she catches sight of his blush.] Diarmuid! [She knows what he was thinking now...]
Well, I was going to say I had to get out of the extra clothes because I was too hot, but I think you need cooling off more than me... [That may be an amused little grin hiding under her hands.]
What? No! I mean...what did you expect? I didn't know!
[Yeah, he's just going to shut up now and turn away from her to hide the darkening blush on his cheeks and to get himself under control.
Those shorts are not helping...
Though, he has to admit, he is happy to see her in more modern clothing and clothing that isn't so covering as her dress is. Diarmuid realizes part of why she has to do it is because of the temperature, but he also hopes that part of the reason is because she is feeling a little more confident in herself. He still remembers how shy she had been before...]
You look very nice. That outfit is a good choice for you...
[Diarmuid doesn't resist when she pulls him around and even smiles when he takes in the outfit again. It is really very cute. He reaches out to run a hand gently over her cheek, which may or may not be a distraction from the fact he is still blushing slightly.]
They aren't that ruffled...
[Yes, they are...]
It is hard to say for sure. The calenders of this day are very different from the way we kept time back then. Still, it feels like it should be soon, don't you think?
[She falls into a hum, letting her thoughts drift before she shakes herself to answer him fully.]
Maybe... no, there's no cattle or sheep and no need to relight the hearth... just ourselves. We don't need everything... I can prepare the proper meal [no she can't] and we can take it to the field of flowers and light a small bonfire. That will be enough for a good start on our new home here, don't you think?
[Opening her eyes, she smiles wistfully and wraps her arms around his waist.]
I miss the children... they are the only thing missing here.
[Diarmuid lets his arms settle around her, though his expression grows slightly wary when she mentions cooking herself. He...would really rather she not burn down the school...]
If it is to be a small bonfire, perhaps we could cook over it as part of the celebration? It's been a long time since I have been able to do that and it will be something that helps us remember the old ways during the celebration. It can be a way to tie our old home to the new.
[He falls quiet when she mentions the children for he misses them too. It has been so long since he has seen them and he left them too soon...]
As much as I miss them, I don't know if I would wish them here. I am sure they all grew to strong brave fighters, but this place... [Diarmuid imagines all the trouble Druime's curiosity could get her into and can't help but shiver...]
[Diarmuid holds out his hands defensively, but the grin on his face as he peeks around them shows he's not really afraid of her...
...even if maybe he should be.]
You assume such terrible things of me, my Lady. I'm hurt. What proof do you have of these accusations? When did I ever not eat what you two made and offered to me?
[Notice he very carefully does not say 'when did I not enjoy what was offered to me' which pretty much proves her point right there.]
[Diarmuid catches that poky hand and presses the back of it to his lips, tongue flicking to just barely to tease the skin.
Distractions? What distractions?
He grins at her and then lets the hand go so she can wrap her arms around him.]
I don't know why you think I should have been anything but good to you. Does it say somewhere in the rules of being a husband that I should not be good to you? I don't know if I was ever told that part...
[Another poke, this time in his back. She's using that pouting tone, mumbling into his chest.]
I wanted to know! There's so many things I want to talk about... oh! Do you have plans this afternoon? Those flowers will wilt if we don't put them up.
I can go back down and get some jars if you really want them. [Diarmuid leads the way up the catwalks that he spend no small amount of time making stronger after she arrived.]
If you want to learn how to fight, I will be glad to teach you. What do you think... [He turns back to smirk and wink at her.]
[How exactly he does it is unknown, but Diarmuid manages to lean back to kiss her on the nose without falling or turning around completely. He then continues on up the stairs and waits for her at the top.]
Learn to joke with me, and I will call things even. Otherwise, I will be forced to tickle you whenever I get the urge to hear your laughter...
[That does nothing to lessen the blush. In fact, it only increases it.
Learn to joke, oh? Puffing up her cheeks, Grainne stares at him as he climbs up, then a mischievous grin crosses her face.
He shouldn't have said that...]
Don't tickle me... [ahem.] I'd love to learn knifework, dear heart. It will give me ample opportunity to see that well filled pair of pants up close and personal while you're working. When you're not wiggling it up the stairs, I mean.
[She takes the remaining steps quickly, drawing up close behind him to briefly reach out with her freed hand and cup that well filled pair of pants...
Well, someone has been a bad influence on Grainne.]
no subject
No, they didn't. Why would it matter even if they had? What is wrong, fair one? Did something happen?

no subject
I'm sorry, I shouldn't be teasing you so much... come here, let me fix those ruffled feathers of yours.
[Tug!]
Now who is being shy? You chided me for hiding myself... and now you won't even look. I think I should tease you about being contrary instead.
[Okay, so she may be teasing some more.]
Hmm, but is it a little too early for Beltane still? I am all mixed up.
no subject
They aren't that ruffled...
[Yes, they are...]

Soon... but the weather today said it feels like it now. At least we have time to prepare.
[It doesn't make sense to her because the season back home wasn't even the same, but she's adapted happily.]
We are celebrating, aren't we? If we are the only two that remembers... I don't want it to slip by.
no subject
I would like to celebrate it. That is not something you have to talk me into.
[In fact, he is rather glad she brought it up so he didn't forget completely which he might have done without her here.]
Do you have something in mind? There are a great many ways to celebrate, after all.
no subject
[She falls into a hum, letting her thoughts drift before she shakes herself to answer him fully.]

no subject
All right. I won't cook. Mean...
[Muttering to herself, she shakes her head, rolling back and forth from the point she made contact with him.]
It is already a handful looking after me here, hmm? We'll just have to celebrate enough for all of them to make it up, won't we?
no subject
[Diarmuid raises an eyebrow at her, rocking back as if trying to match her.]
I am merely trying to make sure my lovely lady relaxes and enjoys the celebration as much as she can. Am I really to be called mean for that?
no subject
My knight is mistaken if he thinks his lady did not notice all those times he pretended to enjoy the food she made with their daughter...
[...poke. Right in the chest.]
And he is mistaken if he thinks she can't tell he's trying to lessen the damage done at the celebration.
no subject
...even if maybe he should be.]
You assume such terrible things of me, my Lady. I'm hurt. What proof do you have of these accusations? When did I ever not eat what you two made and offered to me?

I did not say you did not eat it... you know better than that. For shame, trying to trick me like that.
[Poke!]
A wife knows, my knight. I just never said anything for Druime's sake. She is always so happy her father likes her food.
[Slowly, she settles down and her arms go back around him.]
Why are you so good to me?
no subject
Distractions? What distractions?
He grins at her and then lets the hand go so she can wrap her arms around him.]

I wanted to do a few things in that room, but I finished them while you were away. Shall we go upstairs and decorate?
[He gives her a squeeze before letting go so that he can gather some of the flowers into his arms to take upstairs.]
What do you want to talk about?
no subject
I forgot to get jars for these.
[But she cheers up, falling into line behind him.]
Yes, I'm ready. Do you think now that its open, you could teach me how to fight?
no subject
[Diarmuid leads the way up the catwalks that he spend no small amount of time making stronger after she arrived.]
If you want to learn how to fight, I will be glad to teach you. What do you think...
[He turns back to smirk and wink at her.]
...do you want to focus on knife work?"
no subject
Mean... I'm starting to wonder if I'll ever be able to make up for that, now...
no subject
Learn to joke with me, and I will call things even. Otherwise, I will be forced to tickle you whenever I get the urge to hear your laughter...
